Dental Care
Dental care is a crucial part of keeping the body healthy, but it can be expensive. That’s why the Adopt a Vet Dental Program has a cadre of dentists who provide free oral health care to lower income veterans in Northern Nevada. The program also offers prosthetics like dentures and crowns.
During her career as a Senior Outreach Coordinator at the University of Nevada, Reno Sanford Center for Aging, Linda Haigh discovered a growing need for dental care amongst low income veterans living in subsidized housing. This prompted her to form the Adopt a Vet Dental Program.
Currently, there are over 40,000 low income veterans in Southern Nevada who have not received dental care. That number is twice as high in Southern Nevada than in the North, says Demetrio Gonzalez, executive director of the Adopt a Vet Dental Program. The program is in need of more dentists to help out with this cause. So, if you’re interested in helping out, contact the program.
